Penile Thrush

Penile thrush or male thrush is common among the male population. Penile thrush is caused by Candida Albicans(yeast), a micro-organism that occurs naturally in most people. However, the presence of Candida Albicans usually doesn’t cause any problems as there are plenty of good bacteria which help control the growth of Candida albicans. Therefore the presence of Candida would only create and issue when the natural ecosystem of the environment it lives in is disrupted due to certain conditions. Under these circumstances, the growth of Candida albicans will be stimulated. When this happens near the male genital area, it results in penile thrush (thrush penis).

Causes of Penile Thrush

The main cause of penile thrush is the overgrowth of Candida(the yeast fungus) and there are certain conditions that trigger this uncontrollable growth. Penile thrush can occur in people with
poor immune level which can be caused by poor nutrition or a more serious condition such as HIV. If you are afflicted by diabetes, penile thrush can be the result as well. In fact, if your case of male penile thrush occurs again and again after using anti-fungal treatments, it can be a sign that you may be suffering form diabetes without knowing it. However, it is most likely that the anti-fungal creams are killing the thrush infection but not providing adequate protection from recurring thrush. This is a common problem with anti-fungal creams like Canesten Cream.

Penile thrush (thrush penis) can also be the result of sexual activity, where the infection is passed on by your partner who may be suffering from yeast overgrowth. This is one of the reasons why people are embarrassed to seek treatment for penile thrush; they assume that it is a sexually transmitted disease. But this perception is highly inaccurate.  Penile thrush may not be a sexually transmitted disease as it can occur even in males who are celibate.

Penile Thrush Symptoms

Symptoms of penile thrush vary, but the common signs are;

  • Red, sore spots on the head of the penis
  • Cottage cheese like material under the foreskin
  • Yeasty smell
  • Burning sensation
  • Itching
  • Cracked flaky skin on the outside of the penis including the shaft

As well as these symptoms, pulling the foreskin back may also cause a lot of pain due to the skin being sensitive underneath. When you put on a pair of tight jeans under very hot and humid conditions, it would tend to exacerbate the condition as well.  You need to be extra careful as penile thrush can even occur even there are no symptoms at all. You may be afflicted by the growth of Candida albicans and still exhibit no symptoms. Therefore, if your partner is seeking treatment for thrush(Candida), it is very likely that they will pass it on to you during sexual intercourse.

Penile thrush treatment

There are many misconceptions around Penile thrush and treatments. Thrush is caused by Candida Albicans, a yeast which is naturally occurring throughout the human body including the intestines, stomach, throat, mouth and externally, penis, vagina and other moist warm parts of the body. Thrush is in most cases controlled naturally by the human body and never show any symptoms but in people who are compromised, thrush can be very stubborn.

However, thrush can be cured.

Fortunately, you do not have to spend lots of money on anti-fungal creams to cure thrush. In fact, you can't cure recurring thrush with anti-fungal creams, it just doesn't work like that. Curing thrush is really easy once you know how. Understanding how the body's natural balance controls the yeast infection is the first step to cure thrush.

Penile Thrush can be treated with over-the-counter anti-fungal creams. However, while the creams will kill the Candida (yeast), they do not cure the infection. To cure a yeast infection you have to stop it form recurring. Unlike anti-fungal creams Yeastrol is an all natural cure for thrush that works like nothing else on the market today.
